Research

During the past years, my research work has revolved around the Pathfinder XQuery compiler. Pathfinder compilers expressions from the W3C XQuery language into text book-style relational algebra, enabling any relational database back-end to operate as a high-performance XQuery processor. The compiler's primary back-end is the main-memory database system MonetDB. Pathfinder is the heart of MonetDB's XQuery support, provided in the open-source MonetDB/XQuery distribution. In addition, Pathfinder provides support for SQL:1999-compliant databases, as well as for the main-memory database kdb+.
