• In Fall 2008, my group will relocate to Universität Tübingen to form a new Database Systems Group at the Wilhelm-Schickard Institute for Computer Science.

• Scalable and super-fast XQuery processing with our Relational XQuery compiler Pathfinder and its companion processor MonetDB/XQuery!

• I have been an invited speaker at the Berlin XML Days 2007, September 2007 (Purely Relational XQuery — slides/Quicktime movie, 75 MB).
• With Giorgio Ghelli, I chaired PLAN-X 2007, the 5th edition of the workshop on Programming Languages Techniques for XML. PLAN-X 2007 is collocated with POPL 2007 (Nice, France).

Pathfinder	Currently, most of my research time is absorbed by our Pathfinder project, a high-performance, very scalable (handling XMark benchmark instances for XML document sizes up to 10 GB) implementation of XQuery on top of a relational database back-end. The Pathfinder XQuery compiler emits relational algebra plans which may then be executed on any RDBMS. Pathfinder's XML encoding and XQuery evaluation model is particularly well supported by the main-memory RDBMS MonetDB (developed at CWI, NL). The resulting relational XQuery processor MonetDB/XQuery has seen its initial release into the open-source on May 30, 2005. You will find the software and instructions at monetdb-xquery.org.
